Sheffield is the UK’s most… Two takes on Sheffield

Here’s something we didn’t expect to say, Sheffield is regarded as unsafe! Well, in one specific area; cycling. According to Time Out ‘The UK’s Most Dangerous City for Cyclists Is Sheffield, Surprisingly

We’re not so sure, maybe this survey was conducted a while ago. Sheffield has been making huge efforts in recent times to improve the accessibility and priority status of its cyclists.

This is especially clear to us with the introduction of the new Dutch roundabout at West Bar, right on the doorstep our DS2 office. We’re really hopeful that this marks the development of a green and welcoming connection between Sheffield city centre and West Bar, all the way through to the Kelham Island Quarter.

At DeskSpace we’re ready with bike racks for use and hot showers on site (however much we love Sheffield, a hot shower is always welcome up north!). Promoting green travel and making the commute part of a commitment to being healthy is part of what we do.

Take advantage of the neighbourhood local, the Riverside pub on Mowbray Street

One of the most persuasive reasons to make the commute part of your daily exercise is that the food around here is just too good. You’re spoilt for choice surrounded by great Sheffield pubs, bars, food halls and restaurants in Kelham Island, Neepsend and West Bar. (Not gonna lie, it’s why we chose to be here).

Is it possible to add to that? Absolutely. Sheffield has been declared the UK’s top city for food! Wiping the floor with the competition (yes that includes you London, Manchester and Edinburgh). The title was awarded by All.com. Taken from their research, how about these for some winning stats.

Sheffield boasts:

  • 4 establishments listed in the Michelin Guide
  • 71 food markets, and
  • 99 food festivals

No wonder we’re all out on our bikes so much!
